APT has a strong fiscally conservative culture which has been very successful over the past 25 plus years. We manage to (and almost always beat) our budget projections. We don't spend money before we have it. This has resulted in being in a strong and stable financial position.
In 2024, the APT Board committed to several years of investment where expenses would exceed revenue, funded by operational reserves and targeted fundraising. The investments will fund initiatives to improve salaries and build staff capacity across the organization. During these years, income and expense projections are being closely monitored to ensure benchmarks are met and the return to a balanced budget remains on schedule.
By policy, APT maintains an emergency operations reserve equal to two months of budgeted expenses and a fund for ongoing property and equipment maintenance.
APT has a supporting foundation (The APT Foundation), which makes an annual distribution to APT’s annual operating budget. The current value of the Foundation is approximately $21M. A fundraising effort – The People First Campaign – is underway to increase the value to $40M over the next 5-8 years, increasing the annual distribution to over $1M.
