Please share some background on Silver Star Bed & Breakfast.

Originally built in 1994–1995 by Jean Langer, the Silver Star Bed & Breakfast near Spring Green, Wisconsin, was thoughtfully designed as a 7,200-square-foot log retreat and opened in 1995 as a bed and breakfast, restaurant, and event venue.

In May 2017, Kevin and Elise Dallman took ownership after nearly 30 years in corporate careers in Milwaukee. With their three sons grown, they chose to pursue a more meaningful, hands-on lifestyle.

Kevin oversees the care and ongoing improvement of the log cabin, while Elise shares her love of gardening and baking and tends their flock of chickens—creating a warm, personal experience for guests. In 2019, they expanded the property with an additional 40 acres and added scenic trails.

Today, they embrace their “encore career,” welcoming guests who often return as friends—and family.

What do you love about being a part of the Spring Green community?

We’ve come to truly appreciate the welcoming spirit of the Spring Green community. It’s an eclectic and vibrant mix of locals, retirees, and artists of all kinds, which gives the area its unique charm.

When we purchased the Silver Star nine years ago, we were immediately embraced by the community and made to feel as though we had lived here forever. That sense of belonging has meant so much to us. What stands out most is how people come together—whether it’s supporting local fundraisers or simply lending a helping hand to a neighbor. There’s a genuine warmth here that you can feel every day, and it’s one of the many reasons we’re so grateful to call this place home.

Why should APT audience members plan a stay at Silver Star Bed & Breakfast Inn?

The Silver Star B&B is the ideal place for APT audiences to relax and recharge after an evening at American Players Theatre. Just a short drive away, our peaceful setting offers a quiet escape where you can unwind, enjoy a restful night’s sleep, and wake to birdsong and fresh coffee on the front porch.

What truly sets us apart is the experience. We take pride in getting to know our guests and creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere that feels like home. Many APT theatergoers return year after year, drawn not only by comfort and convenience, but by the genuine connections they’ve made here.

For us, it’s more than a stay—it’s about building relationships. Our guests often arrive as visitors, but leave as friends, becoming part of the Silver Star family.

Where else would you recommend visitors stop while in the area? What do guests love?

While many of our guests visit for the American Players Theatre, the Spring Green area offers even more to explore. We always encourage visitors to experience two of the region’s most iconic attractions: Taliesin, the home and studio of renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and House on the Rock.

Though both were created around the same time period, they offer completely different—and equally unforgettable—experiences. Taliesin showcases Wright’s vision of organic architecture and harmony with nature, while House on the Rock is a one-of-a-kind attraction filled with eclectic collections and imaginative design.

Together, they highlight the rich creativity and character of the area—there truly is nothing else like it.
