American Players Theatre Apprentice Company Season 2026

If interested for consideration, please consider the following:

Our Apprentice Company is made up of early career actors who have a passion for dense poetic texts and an interest in learning on the job. Apprentices play supporting roles and understudy larger roles. Our apprentices are salaried, housed and are not required to do tech work.

Apprentices attend classes with our Voice and Text staff, directors and Core Company actors, in preparation for our large outdoor space. There is considerable mentorship involved and the chosen cohort self produce a show at the end of our season and completion of the program.

In Summer 2026, APT will produce the following shows in rotating repertory.

In our 1000-seat outdoor Hill Theatre: AS YOU LIKE IT directed by Laura Rook; THE MATCHMAKER directed by Brian Cowing; UNCLE VANYA directed by Brenda DeVita; SUEÑO directed by Marcela Lorca; and THE TWO "GENTLEMEN" OF VERONA directed by Aaron Posner.

On our indoor 200-seat Touchstone Theatre: CASEY AND DIANA directed by Michael Herwitz; THE CHAIRS, directed by Vanessa Stalling; DONTRELL, WHO KISSED THE SEA, directed by Tyrone Phillips; and WITCH, directed by Keira Fromm.

Our Summer 2026 season begins rehearsal on April 27 and closes on October 4. Due to the nature of our repertory season, we are unable to consider actors who aren't available for the entirety of the season. Again, each actor in the season will play multiple roles and will have additional understudy responsibilities.

Audition Submission Requirements

We would like to see:

• (1) Shakespeare piece (must be in verse)
• (1) piece of your choice; need not be classical, just something you love to do!
• Additionally, if you sing and/or play an instrument, please do so on your submission.

Self-Tape Requirements:

• Please edit your audition into one file.
• Your submissions should not exceed 4 minutes.
• Tapes should be uploaded via YouTube link or Vimeo (if it's password protected we may not be able to view).
