Introduce us to 4PeteSake!

4PeteSake is a charitable organization, in operation since 2005, that helps people in need within the boundaries of the River Valley School District.

4PeteSake has helped over 125 households during this time and provided over 1.5 million dollars in assistance. The impact on the recipients and their families has been life changing as they cope with financial hardship created by illness or injury through no fault of their own. Rather than the money going directly to the recipients, their bills are submitted to the organization and the vendors are paid; medical bills, mortgage, rent, electricity, car payments, insurance, and more.

What inspired the creation of 4PeteSake?

A young man, Peter Greenwood, was diagnosed with bone cancer which resulted in a partial leg amputation. Community residents formed a committee and worked to raise a significant sum for Peter to get an athletic prosthetic leg.

The Day in the Park debuted in August of 2005 and the fundraising committee was named 4PeteSake because of Pete, and because of the saying if something needs doing just do it "for pete's sake". The 4PS slogan was coined... "If you see a need...Fill it".

That first year, more money was raised than was needed for the new leg so the decision was made to pay it forward and we have been paying it forward ever since.

The project was so successful that 4PeteSake has continued in the same spirit to this day, all driven by unpaid volunteers.

What do you love about being part of the River Valley community?

The unmatched natural beauty of the River Valley has attracted a diverse population of residents. We have an unusually large percentage of artists, theatre professionals, and musicians that add to the quality of life in our small rural communities.

We love the generosity of spirit of this community. From the beginning, we have tried to involve as many people as we could in order to make the Day in the Park a success. The local Lions Club and Knights of Columbus serve food and drink, many, many people volunteer their time, businesses/individuals donate to the silent auction, baked goods are donated, people from near and far run/walk/bike or play pickleball. It is truly a community event in every way, and this community rises to the occasion every year.

Why would the APT audience be interested in 4PeteSake?

A number of APT employees have been on our volunteer operating committee, and others have donated their time in a variety of different ways. Our relationship with APT has been a partnership of giving back to the community for 22 years.

4PeteSake would like to a extend hearty thanks for all the good work APT does not only with its outstanding live theatre, but as a community partner.

Where do you recommend people explore in the Spring Green area after stopping by Day in the Park?

American Players Theatre, Taliesin, the lower Wisconsin River, and the music events at The Shed's Post House garden, the Slowpoke Lounge and Cabaret, and the Spring Green General Store are all well worth a visit!
